Abstract

This article analyses existing theoretical and methodological approaches to assessing agglomeration processes. The study compares “universal” and “individual” methods for assessing agglomerations, highlighting their respective advantages and limitations. Within the framework of the study, an updated integral index of agglomeration development is proposed. In addition to traditional socio-economic indicators, the proposed index incorporates components related to digital governance and environmental sustainability. This approach provides a more comprehensive framework for assessing contemporary agglomeration development in the context of urbanisation and sustainable urban development.
