The article examines the economic and theoretical foundations of improving the economic efficiency of railway transport enterprises through artificial intelligence (AI). The author develops definitions of AI and economic efficiency for railway enterprises, an expanded classification of AI technologies based on seven criteria, a scheme illustrating how AI generates economic effects along the freight transport chain, and five economic principles for applying AI.Keywords
